Our overcrowded little island

It is not surprising that travel is difficult and expensive in our small and overcrowded little island. We have more than 60 million people moving around and most families have more than one car, public transport is erratic and overcrowded and government taxes on fuel are amoungst the highest anywhere. Here I have included my personal recommendations plus what I consider to be the most useful information and ads.

Plan travel by bus. train, coach, ferry and London underground.

This is an excellent service. On one occasion I called from a bus stop in a rural location and they were able to tell me why a bus was delayed and when it was expected. I found it to be a very efficient service with friendly helpful staff.

BA and Unite in war of words

British Airways clashed with union leaders tonight over the effect of a strike which hit flights and caused disruption for passengers.

Fifty five people were arrested and several people injured after violent clashes broke out between right-wing and anti fascist extremists and police during a demonstration in a town centre today.

British Airways is flying a number of empty long-haul flights as it tries to cope with the fall-out from the mass walkout by cabin crew staff.

A Labour MP was facing deselection today amid claims by local party members she does not work hard enough in her constituency.

British Airways said it would fly more than 60 percent of passengers with flights booked for this weekend despite a three-day cabin crew strike that risks hurting the Labour government weeks before an election.
